What's the difference between COVID-19 Rapid and PCR Tests?
There are two main categories of testing:
Antigen Test (frequently referred to as a rapid test). This test detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. Turnaround time for results is usually very quick, within 15 minutes. Rapid tests are considered most accurate in a patient who is having symptoms of COVID-19. While the rapid test can get you results very quickly, the results may not always be as accurate if you are not having any symptoms.
PCR Test. PCR testing is considered the “gold standard” in SARS-CoV-2 detection. This test actually detects RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even in those who have no symptoms. Turnaround time is longer, generally 2-3 days but can be in as little as 24 hours. When demand is high, results can take a week or longer.

Safety Precautions
PM Kidz has implemented several measures to provide a safe environment for our patients and staff. For patients with possible COVID-19 exposure or symptoms, we will evaluate you via a telemedicine visit to reduce the risk of exposure to infection. For all patients who are seen in the office for a visit, they are quickly registered and immediately placed in a sanitized exam room. Any additional paperwork can be completed in the exam room. We are requesting the fewest number of people possible to accompany the patient for in-office visits. We request that all people over two years of age with Covid symptoms wear a face mask for the entire visit – including while waiting in the exam room. All providers and staff wear face masks and select protective equipment as necessary on a case by case basis. Additionally, we have added a higher level of sanitation to our already stringent cleaning policies for all rooms, surfaces and contact areas in our office. We strongly practice social distancing and safe hygiene.
For patients with known exposure to COVID-19 or high risk symptoms, testing will be conducted curbside.
