PM Kidz is dedicated to the health and wellness of all our children and young adult patients.

Our mission is to develop holistic solutions for the health and well-being of children and to inspire lifestyle changes through fitness and nutrition.

With our new fitness initiative, we hope to educate children on the importance of healthy nutrition and regular physical activity, to start establishing a solid foundation for healthy habits early in life and to empower children to begin taking an interest in their own health and well being.

What is FitKidz

Fit Kidz is our new pediatric fitness and nutrition program created to encourage health and fitness as a way of life for children and their families in a positive environment. We focus on the whole child and are dedicated to building strong bodies, minds and hearts. We want children to learn the importance of being healthy through physical, mental, and social-emotional awareness.

Fit Kidz is designed as a 12-month behavior modification program consisting of regular weekly visits for the first 3 to 6 months followed by monthly maintenance sessions from 6 to 12 months.

Our program helps your family learn about and make lifestyle changes to help reduce the health risks related to excessive weight gain.

We address several factors that contribute to weight gain including:

  • Food choices
  • Family meal patterns
  • Family conversations and decisions about food
  • Eating behaviors
  • Portion size
  • Food accessibility
  • Emotional stressors
  • Inactivity
  • Financial barriers
  • Body image

What are the benefits of the FitKidz Program?

    With technology, video games, and social media on the rise, children now lead a more sedentary lifestyle. Sedentary behaviors can lead to weight gain and an elevated body mass index (BMI). BMI is a measure of a person’s weight relative to age and height. An elevated BMI increases our risk for high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, Type 2 Diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

    It is our belief that every child can achieve optimal physical and cognitive development, attain a healthy weight, enjoy delicious foods, and reduce the risk of chronic disease through appropriate eating habits and participation in regular physical activity.

    Our program is designed to teach and give your child the necessary tools for healthy living, increase self-esteem, facilitate problem-solving, and teach your child that moving can be fun!

    Our program respects every child as an individual and encourages all participants to reach their optimal personal goals. Our hope is to help your child and family establish the foundations of a healthy lifestyle that will continue to benefit everyone for years to come!

    The FitKidz Program Structure

    The program consists of an initial health consultation session to review the patient’s medical history, family history, nutrition history and health goals. During this visit we will discuss the metrics that will be used to monitor your child’s health and progress and schedule any necessary lab work or follow-up appointments. At the end of the visit, an individualized action plan is developed for the patient and family.

    The program consists of weekly fitness sessions led by either our pediatric cardiologist or our qualified fitness trainer. The fitness sessions are held in our in-office fitness studio and each session is 30 minutes once a week. The sessions include the use of a variety of gym equipment and exercises to increase your child’s heart rate, work up a sweat and have your child leave feeling great. We encourage participants to wear light active clothing and bring water to each session.

    With FitKidz, we don’t just focus on weight or body mass index (BMI). We hope that through establishing healthy habits, those numbers will naturally improve. We set smart goals, identify barriers, and develop a plan to achieve those goals. Our excellent team will motivate you and your child through this entire journey!

    FitKidz was developed for children of all ages. While the fitness portion of the program is more ideal for school-age children to young adults, we encourage all children to start learning about healthy food choices and physical activity in their formative stages to develop good lifestyle habits early. We will treat each child and family individually and work with each child’s individual needs and limitations.

    FitKidz was developed and is led by pediatric cardiologist Dr. Wali Gauvin. Dr. Gauvin is a fitness enthusiast and wants to help young people see positive possibilities through being aware of their mental and physical state of health. He believes kids should be mindful of the thoughts and actions they take which affect their health. His goal is to help kids realize they have a team of people who are going to believe, support and guide them. We are proud to have an interdisciplinary team to help address each child’s and family’s fitness and nutrition goals and to help them achieve those goals.

    The initial consultation and fitness sessions are covered by most insurance plans. Any co-pays and deductibles will apply.
